Year 3 Spring Term 2 Theme

Dear Parents/Carers

We have started this term with our second historical topic theme, which is called ‘The Linking Project’. In this topic, we will focus on a local history study, geography and art.

In English, we will be reading and writing baddie to goodie stories and we will be writing persuasive pieces too.

We will then move into geography where we will be using fieldwork to observe measure and record human and physical features. We will also be using digital and OS maps to conduct research.

In history, we will develop our knowledge in chronology with an understanding of the local area. We will answering historically valid questions about change, similarity and differences in local areas. We will work understanding how our knowledge of the past is constructed from a range of sources.

We will be using a fantastic new website called ‘Charanga’ for our music lessons. We will explore pitch, tempo and tone. We will also have opportunities to move to the beats and use musical instruments.

In oracy and dialogic talk sessions, we will learn to articulate and justify our answers. Using the sentence openers provided, the children will debate and discuss various matter linking to our history, English and PHSE topics. We will use our talk rules during our discussions.

In PHSE, we will be exploring the topic of ‘health and wellbeing’ we will learn the different ways to stay safe and how we can be healthy both in the inside and outside.

In R.E, we will look at ‘how do faith communities demonstrate what is sacred?’

In computing, they will be leaning about e-safety; they will be exploring the ways children can be safe on-line. They will also be focusing on data handling; children will have opportunities to use Excel.

Finally, in French, they will practise their vocabulary in words and phrases related to Dans l’ecole (In school)

Children will also meet their linking project class in Frizinghall and later arrange to meet their partner class in their school. They will also have a fantastic opportunity to learn to weave and try Yoga.
