Art
Art at Frizinghall is about sharing how we see or experience the world, usually through drawing, painting, sculpture or collage.
Art units are planned for and taught within theme lessons.
We want our children to enjoy art, feel positive about their achievements, and give them the desire to continue with art or enjoy experiencing art, when they leave our school.
• Children are taught skills in sketching, drawing, painting and sculpture which help them to progress and become more proficient.
• Each lesson begins with a clearly articulated purpose relating to both knowledge and skills. Children will record their on-going development in knowledge and skills in their sketch books.
• Children are encouraged to ask questions as well as answer them. They are encouraged to share ideas, talk to each other and work cooperatively.
• Children build their knowledge of the great artists, craft makers and designers, and their understanding of the historical and cultural development of their art forms (See example knowledge organisers below)
• There is an emphasis on practical skills, research and linking art to the outside world. There will be opportunities to visit local art galleries and take part in workshops, for example at Cartwright Hall and the 1853 Hockney Gallery at Salts Mill.
• At the end of each unit children will create a final piece. Work will be displayed in classrooms, around the school, in Big Books and on the school website.
